Can you believe it is May already? It seems like the time is flying by, the days are longer and the flowers are in bloom. With the sweet smells of spring in the air and the harmonious sounds of mother earth resonating throughout the land, there is no better time to plan your beautiful wedding ceremony. We understand that planning your dream wedding is sometimes a daunting task, and sometimes simply picking your wedding theme is the best way to start. 

We here at Open Ministry would love to help you get started – listed below are a few great ideas for wedding themes.

1 The Classic Vintage - Capturing the spirit of the 20’s lends to a chic and stylish wedding. Think older antique slightly feminine styling. Focus on pastel muted color palettes and a lot of white lace. Antique items such as keys, broaches, ceramics, and beads are tasteful additions.

2 Romantic (aka fairy tale wedding) – This wedding theme is timeless. White flowers everywhere are a must! White linens and softer pink hues are always a nice touch. Dress the groomsmen in classic black tuxedos and bridesmaids in a softer pink palette. Feeling really creative and want some more inspiration? Think every Disney movie wedding ever.

3 Rustic Theme – Wood and warm colors are the key here. Bronze, Rust, Copper, Yellow (more on yellow later), and Mauve are great colors to get your creative gears going. Linens such as burlap, tweed, and twine are all awesome for a rustic theme. Don’t forget about the yellow! Fresh dandelions, lemons, and honey are wonderful additions for décor. Felling fresh? Incorporate some fresh herbs such as beautiful rosemary, basil, and mint into your mosaic.

Weddings can also be small and intimate, in a garden or tropical foliage where singing is done by the variety of birds, or in sail boat on tranquil turquoise waters along the shores with a view of the beaches and rolling hills and the breakers on the barrier reef. The Turks and Caicos Islands offer this unique experience.

So many of our ministers have asked the following questions:

Question: What do I need to register with my county clerk?

Answer: Most county clerks will require you to present your Letter of Good Standing and Ordination Credential, you may also be able to register with your Minister ID card. In most cases you will need to present these items to the county clerk and complete any forms that the county requires.

Question: Is this for real? Can I really perform a wedding for my friends or family?

Answer: YES! The Open Ministry maintains a church status, so that ministers are able to officiate marriage in all 50 states. As all marriage laws vary from state to state and even county to county, these laws vary widely and are always subject to change. You should always have your credentials and verify your status as a minister with the local county clerk or agency that issues marriage licenses prior to performing any ceremony.

Question: Can you ordain me over the phone?

Answer: No, it is our policy that your request for ordination must be in written form submitted electronically or mailed in to us. You can download and complete offline Ordination Application if you wish to mail it in.

Question: What do I need to perform a wedding?

Answer: Most states will require that you register with the county clerk or the local agency that records marriages in the county before you can perform or solemnize a ceremony.

In most cases these will suffice for registration needs. However, there are a few counties that have very specific requirements and they require these specialized Letters of Good Standing for ministerial registration;

The following states have special requirements:

• New York
• West Virginia
• Clark County (Las Vegas, Nevada).
